Riverside native and UCR graduate ('76) Mark N. Katz has been studying and analyzing Soviet and then Russian policy toward the Middle East his entire career. After earning his Ph.D. at MIT in 1982, he worked as a Soviet Affairs analyst at the Department of State, was a Rockefeller Foundation Fellow, and then a Kennan Institute Research Scholar. Since 1988, he has been a professor at George Mason University. In addition, he is currently a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council and a member of the scientific advisory board of the Finnish Institute of International Affairs.
