Dr. John Jones
La Sierra University
Tuesday, February 18, 2020
3:30 – 5:30 pm
Location:
UCR Extension Center, 1200 University Avenue, Riverside

Religion is the undiscussed diversity in America. At the same time,
it is a major source of litigation against government at all levels.
Buddhist scholar, Dr. John Jones, will facilitate the discussion
of international Buddhism to build both religious literacy and
cultural understanding within America’s pluralistic society.
As part of our learning we will discuss how the differences in
belief challenge government policies sometimes. For example,
we will look at how beliefs and values of practicing Buddhists and
those of other Asian religions may impact the interpretation of
such questions as “Should mindfulness become part of learning
practice in a public school?”. Improved understanding of
Buddhism will enable participants to better appreciate global
topics in art and culture, and in their communities around the
rituals and beliefs involved in cultural practice locally.
